What Clubhouse and Roblox Show Us About the Future of the Church
This past week I joined Clubhouse. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a relatively new, rapidly growing online platform for conversations. Unlike other social media platforms, it’s not a visual medium.
That’s part of it’s draw, I think. You can jump in to a conversation without having to be presentable, like you would have to on Instagram (or Zoom, or Facetime…)
Another feature of Clubhouse that I really enjoy is that it’s unscripted. People are just having conversations, on any number of topics. You see a title and you have an idea of what it’s about, but it can go in surprising directions. I almost always learn something new. It’s not polished, deliberately so.
A third feature is that it’s accessible. You can pop in to just listen to the conversation if you want. There’s always a moderator, and there’s a “stage” that you can be invited on to speak. I’ve done that a few times and connected (or reconnected) with a few people, like my new friend Jeff Reed who leads Digital Church Planting at Stadia.
Yesterday, Jeff hosted a conversation on “The future of the church.” I jumped in and shared a few thoughts, the kinds of things you see if you read this newsletter. And Jeff introduced us to a guy named Daniel Herron. Daniel is 20 years old, and has been leading…
