How Prayer Changes our Front Yard Mission
In a previous post, we looked at the Priority of Prayer in Front Yard Mission, for what God wants to do in us before he works through us. Let’s look at some additional crucial ways that prayer changes our perspective.
Prayer changes how we see ourselves
We’ve noticed something pretty common when we talk about Front Yard Mission. Something that’s true across all types of people and churches: people are really quick to disqualify themselves from Front Yard Mission. We’ve already dealt with the most common objections in an earlier chapter, but want to emphasize here that prayer is essential to reorienting how we see ourselves as called, equipped, empowered, and active participants in God’s work in your Front Yard Mission. God has uniquely shaped you for good works which he has prepared in advance for you (Eph. 2:10). Jesus says “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last” (John 15:16).
Prayer is where we lose our excuses and receive our commission. When we claim promises like the ones above, there’s not much room for saying, “Front Yard Mission just isn’t my thing,” or “I’m too busy” or “I can’t ever be as successful as so-and-so.” If you’re struggling with believing that God can and will use you to love your neighbors, talk it over with him in prayer…
